hey look i’m playing the great escape this year, this is cool xxxoxoxoxo

you can never quarantine the pastttt (oh malkmus i luv u)

Hello erryone.

So yeah, it was announced today that I’m leaving the wonderful Paul at Tiny Lights Recordings and moving to Heist or Hit recordings to do a single and an album (more info on which will be released later on so just like hold yr horses or whtvr it’s coming), it’s kind of like when Death Cab For Cutie moved from Barsuk to Atlantic but with a lot less money involved and I’ll never have the musical impact on the world that Gibbard and co did but hey, it’s my party and i’ll make my self seem more important with dramatised analogies if i want to. This can be seen in one of two ways which i will demonstrate through a positive symbol (+) and a negative symbol (-)…

-  I will no longer be releasing music through Tiny Lights, I cannot ever put into words just how thankful I am to Paul for scooping me up as some stupid 17 year old with a handful of songs and then turning me into the pop princess that throws strops on tour and alienates everyone around him with grandiose claims like “one day i’ll pay the government millions of pounds to cut off the water to your house so you dehydrate to death, Sam!” & “Hey Laurie, you think yr good at guitar? wait until i lock you in my bathroom with a puma”. It’s been crazy considering it was this time last year that me and my friend Jonathan were recording the demo tracks that got me onto Tiny Lights, but everything has to end and many other clichés so I feel like this is a good natural progression and I’ve made a lifelong friend in Paul and he’s got a great roster of artists so keep buying Tiny Lights stuff and keep possibly the best D.I.Y label in the country going.

Here’s what Paul said about everything (the old romantic) - “I wanted to go on record and just say how proud I am of him and how excited I am for his future. He’ll always remain a friend, both of Tiny Lights and of me personally.

Fantasy Rainbow was the first artist to hook up with Tiny Lights, and I reckon it was a pretty perfect fit for both parties. When we put Teens out last August, both Ollie and I were in our infancy in this mental world of making records, and since that time, both Fantasy Rainbow and, (if you’ll forgive my immodesty) Tiny Lights have grown enormously since then. I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together, and find it difficult to describe just what Fantasy Rainbow’s music means to me on a personal level.”

+  I will now however be releasing music through the ace Heist or Hit Records which is home to some fucking ace artists like Simian Ghost and Letting Up Despite Great Faults and I Am Oak and my heroes when I was 15 The Answering Machine (although having met them now I realise that they’re just losers like everyone else. kill yr idols). There’s gonna be a 7” single in Summer and then an album later on in the year that I’m recording overseas but we can all talk about that later. For now I’m just focusing on how exciting everything is and trying to come to terms with the whirlwind that has been the last year of my life. So much stuff has happened and it’s so cool that you all stuck by me even through all of my bullshit on twitter and nonsensical tweets about kids I used to go to school with. It means so much you’re all still here and we’re gonna have a blast in the next few years before the bubble inevitably bursts and i’m working in burger king spitting in yr onion rings.

If yr around at all in the coming weeks I’m playing The Old Blue Last in London on the 10th of May and The Great Escape Festival in Brighton on the 12th of May. There’s more tour news coming and stuff but I can’t really think about anything at the minute.

Keep on keeping on and I hope to see you all soon.

‘No Hope. Anyway, for now you can get the record from the Tiny Lights Bandcamp, iTunes or if you’ve got no dollar you can listen to it for free on Spotify by clicking on the words that I just wrote.

LAST WEEK i put the video for the single of da same name exclusively on The 405 but now it can go anywhere so for yr ease you can watch it below. it was dead fun to do and everyone’s been dead nice about it so that’s all dead fun and nice.

BUT the tour isn’t the first gigs for the new record, on Tuesday night (tomorrow, duhhh) I’m playing at Castle Hotel in Manchester (my local!) with Best Friends who are awesome and you should also check out and you can do that by clicking their name that I just wrote. It’s organised by the awesome guys at Reeks of Effort and the facebook event page for that is HERE.

AND last but deffo not least we’re throwing a massive party to celebrate the release of no hope at my favouritist of venues The Cluny on the 23rd which is THIS FRIDAY!! the event page for that is HERE and that’s again with my bro’s PlayLounge who are coming all the way up from london and sleeping in my childhood bedroom ‘cause my parents live nearish Newcastle.

I’m sorry that this has been so long and such a bore but this is the end, all that’s left is to say thank you all so much for sticking around and letting me be able to keep making records and go on tour and meet all of the amazing people that making music has let me meet.Really exciting news coming soon that’ll change everything, but for now let’s just all enjoy the ride yeah.

Love you forever, Oliver xxxoxoxoxoxox

The video for my new single 'No Hope. Not Ever' is exclusively on The 405 as of 2day. hooray! just click here

‘Purportedly born in upstate NY and presently shacked up in Manchester, Oliver Catt masquerades as Fantasy Rainbow and latest EP No Hope. Not Ever sounds like Real Estate before shit got, well, a little too real. Expected March 19th via Gateshead indie Tiny Lights Recordings, lapses of lackadaisical guitars wash over the ramshackle clanging of a loose hi-hat like sea foam hissing over an infinity of slowly eroded pebbles on opener It’s Only the Sealife whilst shiny, happy guitars redolent of those to impel The World Won’t Listen smatter against mellifluous West Coast lethargy on the impermeable wave of splendour that is Raincoat. The EP’s eponymous closer is another coursing swill of a comber that’s sweeter than any sweet tooth-surrenderingly saccharine fizz never to have crossed over the pond and, clocking in at almost eight minutes that are eventually curtailed with the dramatic hues of organ whirr, almost inadvertently becomes something of an epic. Much of Fantasy Rainbow’s work may be monochromatic yet No Hope. Not Ever glistens quite radiantly.’
